My Approach to Therapy
I use a holistic approach to therapy, as mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual concerns often overlap.   I'm passionate about supporting positive and lasting change by improving your overall health and wellbeing.  I will work collaboratively with you to help you achieve your goals and overcome barriers to them, while providing constructive feedback along the way.  My work often draws on the importance of enhancing self-awareness.  Awareness is the vehicle through which true transformation and growth can occur.  In one-on-one sessions, I use well-studied and effective therapies focused on your goals.  These treatments are heavily researched and have higher rate of success than many other forms of therapy.

My Education and Training
I'm a licensed clinical psychologist (PSY 26974) and earned my doctorate in clinical psychology from La Salle University (APA-accredited).  I completed an APA-accredited postdoctoral fellowship at the San Francisco VA Medical Center, where I specialized in working with veterans with trauma, anxiety, acute and chronic illness, substance use, and mood disorders.  At UCSF, I conducted research on HIV and cognitive impairment and co-authored a funded grant to assess the impact of mindfulness on reducing cognitive impairment in older adults with HIV.   My research has been published in peer-reviewed journals and I often attend conferences to stay up to date with the latest research.  In addition to my private practice, I'm the Training Director of The Berkeley Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Clinic, where I train and supervise doctoral therapists in how to use evidence-based therapies.  I remain committed to researching effective therapies and mentor doctoral students on research projects aimed at improving the quality and effectiveness of therapy.  Throughout my career, I've worked in a variety of clinical settings and received advanced clinical and research training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Mindfulness-Based Behavior Therapies.    In addition to attending professional trainings, I have a meditation practice and often attend retreats and workshops to deepen my practice.
